Common Questions

• Is Scannibal free? Yes, Scannibal is free to download and use. An optional Pro subscription for heavy users may be offered; if so, purchases are handled by Apple or Google and subject to their terms. The core allergy checks will always have a free tier.
• Why did a scan come back wrong? Scannibal's analysis is AI-generated and can make mistakes, especially with unclear photos. See our Terms of Service for how to use results safely.
• Can I check a menu for my whole family? Yes. Add family members in Profiles > Family, each with their own allergies and diet. When you scan a menu, recipe, or drink, choose "Everyone" and you'll get a verdict for each person, plus the dishes that look like the best fit for everyone. Always confirm with staff.
• Does it work with menus in other languages? Yes. Scannibal reads menus in most languages and scripts, keeps the original dish names next to translations, and gives you a "Show to staff" card in the local language. Tap "Translate full menu" to see every dish.
• Why doesn't the butler speak automatically? To keep things quiet in restaurants and shops. Tap the speaker on any result to hear it.
• I'm vegetarian only on certain days. Can Scannibal handle that? Yes. In your allergy and diet profile, use "Some days only" to pick the days, and scans on those days follow that diet.
• What is Meal Check? Snap your plate, a menu or a barcode and get estimated calories, protein, carbs and fat, whether it fits your goals (high protein, keto, GLP-1, diabetes-friendly, low sodium, heart healthy, endurance training and more), and what to add, remove or swap. Under "Right now" you can turn on Pregnant or Carb loading for race week (which turns itself off after 3 days). It's general guidance, not medical advice.
• How does barcode scanning work? Scan the barcode on packaged food and Scannibal looks up the exact product in the Open Food Facts database. Only the barcode number is sent. If the product isn't listed, take a photo of the label instead.
• Does it work with Apple Health? Yes, if you allow it. Tap "Add to today" on a meal to save its calories, protein, carbs and fat to Apple Health. Scannibal can also read your weight to tune exercise equivalents. This data stays on your phone and in Apple Health and is never sent to our servers. Change access anytime in the Health app.
• Is there an Android version? Android is coming soon. For now Scannibal is on iPhone.
• Does My Allergy Card work offline? Yes. Make a card once per language while you have a connection, and it's saved on your phone, so it opens with no signal.
• I shared a link. Can I delete it? Shared links are public to anyone who has the link and are deleted automatically after 90 days. To delete one sooner, email the link to us at the address above.
• Is it for emergencies? No. For an allergic reaction or medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number. US Poison Control: 1-800-222-1222. For pets: your vet or ASPCA Animal Poison Control, (888) 426-4435 (a fee may apply).
